There are many roles in the band which are unseen and often unsung, including serving as a committee member, managing our uniform and instrument stock and inventory, managing social media and many more. There are also more obvious roles such as compering our concerts, leading the training band and conducting the main band all of which are more than just picking up a mike or a baton.

It is an indication of just how many people work behind the scenes, contributing over and above to the success and smooth functioning of the band, that THREE people shared the Bandsman of the Year award this year! Kath Mann has been a band member for many years and has served on the committee for many of them. She is the band librarian, managing several hundred music scores and ensuring we all have the correct music in our folders. Kieren Berry is our solo euphonium player and, this year, has taken over the baton as training band conductor as well as continuing to manage the band Instagram account. Finally, Michael Butcher has been using his experience working in the media to promote the band and raise our profile both in local papers, magazines and online. Between them they play an enormous role in keeping the band working efficiently and are all three brilliant ambassadors for the band. Thank you Kath, Kieren and Michael for all that you do.
